How the directory works

This page explains who runs Security Services Finder, where listing information comes from, and the limits of what we check, so you can decide how much weight to give each listing.

Who operates the directory

Security Services Finder is an independent Australian directory managed by a security professional with current experience in security site management and previous experience as a State Asset Protection Manager for a large international commercial organisation.

The directory is independently operated and is not affiliated with or endorsed by any current or former employer. That experience informs the directory’s approach; it is not an endorsement of any listed provider, and the operator has not personally inspected or approved the businesses listed. Why the directory exists

Choosing a security provider means checking licences that differ by state and service, working out who actually covers your area, and comparing businesses that describe their services in different ways. The directory brings that information together by service and suburb, and shows what licence information is available for each listing, so it is easier to shortlist providers and ask the right questions.

How provider information is collected

  • Business details and services come from each provider's own website or its own submission. A provider is listed under a service only when it describes offering that service.
  • Service areas are only the suburbs a provider says it services, or all suburbs where it says it covers a whole metropolitan area or state. A listed area means the provider services it, not that it has an office there.
  • ABNs are checked on the Australian Business Register where a listing shows an ABN check date.
  • Licences are matched on public state registers where a register can be searched (currently NSW and WA), and re-checked every quarter. Elsewhere a licence number is shown as published by the business.
  • Missing information is left blank rather than guessed.

What the licence-status labels mean

  • Public-register match: we matched the licence on a public register, and the listing shows the source and the date we checked.
  • Licence number published: the business publishes a number, but we haven't checked it on the register yet.
  • No licence number published: the business doesn't publish one. That doesn't mean it is unlicensed; ask the provider.
  • Security licence not applicable: for services such as cybersecurity that state security licences don't generally cover.
  • Not matched to a register: we looked, but couldn't find a matching register entry. Ask the provider for their licence details.
  • Verification pending: the listing hasn't been reviewed yet.

What is and isn't verified

Checked: for a public-register match, that the register showed the licence on the date shown; and, where a check date is shown, the ABN on the Australian Business Register.

Not checked: the quality of a provider's work, pricing, insurance, staff screening, response times, or any claim a business makes about itself. Professional experience is not a substitute for regulator verification. Licences can lapse between checks, so always confirm current credentials with the relevant regulator before engaging a provider.

Corrections and removal

Every provider page has a Report incorrect information link for wrong contact details, areas, services or licence details, or a business that no longer operates. Business owners can claim or update their listing or request removal, and our Privacy Policy explains how removal requests are handled. You can also use our contact form. Listings that aren't security services are removed.

Featured placements may be paid positions. They provide visibility but are not recommendations or endorsements. A featured listing is always labelled "Featured", appears in a separate box, and shows the same licence status as any other listing. A featured listing may also appear first in a directory list, still labelled; when you search, results are ordered by how well they match, and featured status doesn't change that.

Independence

Security Services Finder is independent of every current and former employer of its operator, and of every listed provider. It doesn't sell, install or monitor security services and doesn't take a share of any job. See our Terms & Conditions for details.
