Privacy Policy

Security Services Finder ("we", "us") operates an online directory of security service providers. We are committed to handling personal information in accordance with the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth) and the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs). This policy explains what we collect, where it comes from and your choices.

1. Where listing information comes from

Directory listings are compiled from publicly available sources, including:

  • the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) company and business name registers;
  • the Australian Business Register (ABN Lookup);
  • public security licence registers maintained by state and territory regulators, such as fair trading offices and police licensing units; and
  • information a business publishes about itself, such as its own website.

Listings contain business details: business name, ABN, licence number, services, service areas, business phone number and website. Where a sole trader operates under their own name, that name may appear because it is the name on the public register. We do not publish residential addresses, personal email addresses or dates of birth.

2. Information we collect from visitors

  • Information you send us, such as your name, email address and business details when you claim a listing, request a correction or removal, or contact us.
  • Technical information, such as standard server logs (IP address, browser type, pages visited) collected by our hosting provider to operate and secure the site.
  • Analytics: we count anonymous actions such as searches, provider profile views and clicks on phone or website links. We never record names, email addresses, form contents or licence details for analytics. If we add an analytics service that uses cookies, we will update this policy first.
  • Advertising cookies, if and when advertising services are enabled. We will update this policy and, where required, ask for consent before those services are introduced.

3. How we use information

We use information to publish and maintain an accurate directory, verify claims made by businesses, respond to enquiries, process removal and unsubscribe requests, and keep the site secure.

4. We do not sell personal information

We do not sell, rent or trade personal information. We only disclose it to service providers who help us run the site (such as our hosting and email providers) under confidentiality obligations, or where required by law. Some service providers may store data outside Australia; we take reasonable steps to ensure they handle it consistently with the APPs.

5. Requesting correction or removal of a listing

If you are the owner or an authorised representative of a listed business, or a listing contains your personal information, you can ask us to correct or remove it. Use Report incorrect information on the listing, or our contact form, with the listing URL, what you would like changed or removed, and how you are connected to the business. We aim to act on verified requests within 10 business days. A removed listing is excluded from future updates unless you ask to be relisted.

6. Access, security and retention

You can ask for access to personal information we hold about you. We take reasonable steps to protect it from misuse, loss and unauthorised access, and we delete or de-identify it when it is no longer needed.

7. Marketing email

We only send marketing email with consent, as required by the Spam Act 2003 (Cth). Every message identifies us and includes a working unsubscribe link. You can also unsubscribe here.

8. Complaints

If you have a privacy concern, contact us through our contact form. We will respond within 30 days. If you are not satisfied, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.

9. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top of this page shows when it last changed.
